Skin Grafting may be required to repair wounds after skin cancer removal, and after injuries.
Grafting involves transferring skin from another part of the body (donor site) to the recipient site. Skin grafting causes scarring at both the donor and recipient sites. Small grafts can be done under local anaesthetic, but larger procedures need general anaesthetic as an inpatient in hospital.
Sometimes grafts are slow to heal, especially on the lower leg. Healing may take 1 - 2 months, and require repeated dressing changes.
